It’s finally the first break of the new year! Our kids are all so excited to have a few days off of school, and are probably itching to get out and go do something fun. In Rochester especially, there are tons of fun things to do in and around the town that incorporate all ages and families. Even with just a few days off, you are bound to find something that the whole family can enjoy doing. One of the best resources for finding activities in Rochester is kidsoutandabout.com which constantly updates its website with events and activities for kids in the Rochester/Greater Rochester area. Here are some things scouted for the beginning of February recess!
YMCA: Northwest, Bay View, & Monroe
The YMCA never fails! With a constant flow of fun activities for kids and adults of all ages, each location has something special for you and your family. At the Northwest YMCA, there will be a “Kids Night Out” on February 17th from 7:00pm – 9:00pm, which includes gym games, swimming, a community room, and the mystery cavern! There will be a similar event at the Bay View YMCA, where there is a “Parent’s Night Out.” This will include dinner, playtime in the epicenter, crafts, swimming, and a movie from 6:00pm – 9:30pm. This will give the adults plenty of time to enjoy the night, knowing their kids are having fun as well! At the Monroe YMCA, there is going to be a “Teen City Lock-In” from 6:00pm on February 16th until 9:00am on February 17th. Teens ages 12-18 can participate for food, movies, games, and more.
Has your kid ever been interested in martial arts? Now is your chance to introduce them into the high-gear world! Martial Arts America is holding a “new student special” for the month of February where you can purchase six weeks of classes for only $99, and it includes a full karate uniform. What a deal! With this new student starter package, your child can “kick” off the new year with some new interests and new talents. They have three locations in Rochester, so you will surely find a place closest to you. Also, for teens and adults, there is a three lesson new student program which includes a full martial arts uniform! Three lessons is only $30, and you can start anytime.
Even though this is a little farther away, the Genesee Country Village and Museum is one of the most popular and most visited spots in the area. For the Sunday’s in February, the village invites you to come take a “Winter Walk in the Village” from 10:00am – 4:00pm to enjoy the scenery and look at the freshly fallen snow on the beautiful houses. There are also guided tours, photo shoots available for booking, and a tranquil environment for the whole family to appreciate.
Take a look at all that our city has to offer, and enjoy the activities and events that are made available to us all. Make this February break not only relaxing, but rejuvenating for your whole family!
