“It’s the most wonderful time of the year…”
Right here in Rochester, there are so many fun things to do with your family for the holiday season. We have so many outlets to choose from, making it possible for you to make a full day just dedicated to holiday happenings. From music performances to meeting Santa at the mall, there is surely something for you and your family to enjoy this year. Here are just some ideas:
Holiday Tree Lighting
Save the date! The town of Greece kicks off the holiday season on December 7th with a Tree Lighting and Family Christmas Party! Visits with Santa, crafts, performances, treats and more!
Sweet Creations at the George Eastman Museum
For 22 years, the George Eastman Museum has kept up this tradition for the holidays, with more than 50 confections throughout the historic house (which is extensively decorated for the holidays!) The “Sweet Creations Gingerbread House Display” began November 3rd, but will continue until December 13th! The gingerbread houses will be on sale with a silent auction as well. Kids four and under are free with a paid adult admission, and children ages five to 17 are only $5!
Another Rochester tradition, the Geva Theatre Center will be presenting another performance of A Christmas Carol! This year’s newest version includes over 12 original songs, “larger than life” sets, and brand new stage technology. The performances will run until December 24th, as they started on November 23rd. Guy Paul once again returns to the stage as Scrooge! Tickets are still on sale now.
Yuletide in the Country
With this tour at the Genesee Country Village, visitors will have an experience that is totally different from a normal visit to the village. Taking you back to snow-covered streets in the year 1849, when New York declared Christmas, Independence Day and New Years Day state holidays, this experience will be unique, and will surely take you back in time! There will be music, dancing, and tree lighting when you visit the village homes and businesses.
The Garden Factory is one of the most popular and most-visited places at this time of year. There are over 100,000 LED lights, which is enough to cover 500 individual trees, displayed in an indoor theatre within the factory. The show features many different holiday tunes, ranging from all sorts of genres. There are multiple sets, so you can go through more than once to get another unique experience! Besides this, the Garden Factory has many other exciting happenings for the holiday season for the whole family to enjoy.
